Each year hundreds of crime survivors gather in state capitals all across the country to heal together, share their stories, and advocate for change.

This is the largest gathering of crime survivors in the country. This is Survivors Speak. 2020 marks the beginning of a new era, with our first virtual Survivors Speak during National Crime Victims Rights Week.

Please review the below agenda for 2020 and register for the corresponding events.

WHAT SURVIVORS SAY ABOUT OUR CONVENINGS:

I attended Survivors Speak for the first time and it changed my life. It helped me understand my voice matters, and I can turn my pain into power.

SURVIVORS SPEAK PARTICIPANT

Since Survivors Speak I have learned how to use my voice to advocate for all crime survivors.

SURVIVORS SPEAK PARTICIPANT

What did I learn? I’ve participated in trainings to gain knowledge about how to write and organize state legislative bills, I’ve learned how to speak with my state legislators to promote and advocate for bills. I’ve also learned tools to connect with other survivors of crime, their families, and incarcerated individuals to bring together communities in a way that repairs and restores relationships.

ABOUT SURVIVORS SPEAK

Traditionally held each year during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Survivors Speak has transformed from an annual event into a year-long movement, bringing together crime survivors, particularly from communities most affected by crime, to honor loved ones and advocate for smart justice policies that transform families, communities and the state.

The campaign season culminates in a National Healing Vigil Day of Action, where over two dozen cities from coast to coast hold healing vigils to honor those we’ve lost, to celebrate those of us still here, and to look towards a future where survivors are safe and have the resources we need to move forward.

Whether you’re a survivor or not, join our movement: we can’t do it without our allies, and no survivor should heal alone.

AGENDA

Sunday

#SurvivorSunday kicks off NCVRW elevating the voices of communities most impacted by COVID-19.

It aims to begin the week with a strong showing of solidarity in this time of crisis and the responses survivors are calling for to #StopTheSpread.

The online activity will represent a diverse range of digital stories of crime survivors.

Monday

CSSJ NATIONAL CRIME VICTIMS RIGHTS WEEK PRESS CONFERENCE
The Survivors Speak press conference hosted by Crime Survivors for Safety & Justice aims to bring together Attorney General’s & key state leaders from states across the country to show unity and a vision to advance reforms for victims of crime (TRCs, Victims Comp, Victim Services, etc.)

The conference aims to inform lawmakers & media of our priorities and unify key state leaders.

Tuesday

NATIONAL SURVIVOR ADVOCACY DAY

At prior Survivor Speaks, we have engaged hundreds of people in a policy change agenda that have led to more healing and more help for survivors, and rehabilitation so that we all can live in safer communities. This year. We’re bringing survivors together across the states together at a time when legislatures are closed, but the needs of our communities for healing and safety are only growing. While we are not meeting with lawmakers in their offices today, we will be asking you to part of building an agenda that will address the acute needs of survivors and keep us all safe.
